Inventory management in those games is much more about what amount of money you convert into items that will help you win your next string of fights. Most jrpgs don’t have one and there are plenty of western style rpg’s without one. Plenty of rpg’s have no inventory management whatsoever. Later in the game when you get actual gear perks you might not want to sell a specific piece of gear so that limited slot issue will inevitably come back into play. One thing i will say is that i LOVE the transmog feature so you can always wear a piece a gear that you've previously had even if you sold it, but that is only putting a band-aid on the real problem in my opinion. On top of the fact that unlocking more gear slots is locked behind exploration missions which is quite a few hours into the game, i can imagine a lot more people have had this issue.
I feel like this is one of the things that needs to be fixed immediately because it's game breaking in my opinion. Why is this a thing? I had to reload the mission and empty my gear before opening those chests just so that i could get the gear and every time you open a chest the gear is completely random, meaning that the cool ass wand handle i found is gone forever, at least untill i find it again. In every other game that i can think of the chest either closes so that you can come back to it or the excess gear goes into an overfill slot. Since i had opened them and never received the gear it just disappeared. When i realized the issue i got rid of some gear and went back to the library and all of those chests were EMPTY. I ran out of slots during the Forbidden section of the library mission and my happy ass went around opening all of the chest and kept getting a prompt telling me to go and sell the gear but i had no idea what that meant. THE PROBLEM IS, when you reach that limit and you open a gear chest, you LOSE THAT GEAR. I personally was almost full (16/20 before the first Hogsmead visit) meaning that i had no idea that we had a limit. My biggest issue with this game by far is the fact that you have an extremely limited amount of gear slots so if you're someone like me and you go around looking for chests then you'll fill them up really fast.
